A couple of years ago, LG Display showed off an intensely futuristic 18-inch OLED display that could be bent and rolled up just like a newspaper. Today, that prototype has grown to 65 inches in size, with the company announcing that it’s managed to scale up the tech to the dimensions of a large TV. At CES 2018, LG Display will be demonstrating the new 65-inch rollable OLED prototype, which also happens to have UHD (aka 4K) resolution.
Why would you want to roll up a TV? Well, it obviously makes for easier storage and transportation, but more than anything else, it still remains a distinctly sci-fi concept. Being flexible enough to roll, the display panel becomes more organic and natural. The format…

LG’s pre-CES announcements have so far been high on technology and low on frills, but today the company goes the other way by issuing a new color for its flagship V30 smartphone. Described as a “romance-inspiring” Raspberry Rose, this deep pink shade joins the four other V30 color options on offer from LG and will be available to buy with plenty of time ahead of this year’s Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately for US romantics, however, the Raspberry Rose V30 is only going to be on sale in Asia and Europe.
The V30 is one of the more attractive Android smartphones right now, combining an excellent, waterproof design with the best headphone audio out of any smartphone to date. But, in my time reviewing the phone, I…
We saw a lot of wild stuff this year, from the future of electric cars, holograms, and our planet, to the future of… banana phones. As we take a (short) break before January’s Consumer Electronics Show, here’s a look back on Verge Video’s favorite projects of 2017. - Tom Connors
April 9th: The sound of movie monsters
This video all started with a heated convo at lunch between me, audio engineer Andru Marino, and science editor Ale Potenza: two Jurassic Park fanatics versus me.
We really leaned into sound. Andru, our sound engineer, would edit first, as if it were a podcast, and then I would drop footage. We also watched Jurassic Park movies on the weekend… for research. - Alix Diaconis

The Story of Water director Guillermo del Toro recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about some of the strangest and most supernatural experiences of his life. In addition to two encounters with ghosts, he describes how he had a very vivid encounter with a UFO as a young man — and it looked like crap.
“You sound like a complete lunatic, but I saw a UFO. I didn’t want to see a UFO,” says del Toro. “It was horribly designed.” He described buying a six-pack — which he insists he didn’t drink! — with a friend, and the pair drove out to go look at the stars on the side of an isolated freeway near Guadalajara.
As they sat alone in the darkness, they saw a light on the horizon moving “super-fast.” After they honked at it and flashed their…
