Using Plastic Off-Cuts as Templates for Paper Off-Cuts

Two companies are collaborating to combine their waste into something useful. Japan’s Plastics Co. Ltd. manufactures products out of acrylic sheets, while Ito Design Studio creates paper products. Both companies produce a lot of off-cuts.

The idea is to turn Plastics Co’s off-cuts into templates, that can then be used to trace fold- and cut-lines onto paper off-cuts from Ito Design Studio.

Sadly, none of the resultant objects are terribly useful: A dried snacks holder, a business card holder and some fancy envelopes. But I applaud the thinking behind the concept, and the objects might be fun for children to make.

The line of templates is called Kimochi no Katachi (“the feeling of the shape”) and it has its own Instagram account.
