Product Designer Chris Borge 3D Printed That Fractal Vise That Can Hold Any Shape

Last week we showed you Steve J. Lindsay’s incredible fractal vise, which can hold any shape:

In his documentation, Lindsay referenced an antique design for a fractal vise, which is probably the one restored by Hand Tool Rescue in a recent video:

Now Christopher Borge, a product designer in Adelaide, has figured out how to 3D print a fractal vise. By going over the patent drawings of the Hand Tool Rescue vise, he reverse-engineered some dimensions and took guesses at the joinery and mechanicals.

He eventually opted to go with a twin-screw design.

As you can see, it works great:

Borge points out that it’s still a work in progress, but he’s posted the files to Thingiverse if you want to give it a whirl.
