Yeah, I know – we don’t usually cover fashion on Yellowtrace, however, every so often I will see something that will make me want to break our own rules. Enter Aje’s Resort 21 collection ‘Chroma’.
I love the sentiment and the story of this collection – the art collaborations and the atmosphere captured in the images and the show itself. I feel Aje made a clever attempt at making an original, immersive digital presentation for today’s climate – something that’s not so easy to do.
And while I’ll leave the commentary on the actual fashion to those who are better equipped to discuss such matters (except I will say I’m dead keen and would happily wear almost all of it – but hey, what do I know?), here we’ll focus more on the colours, the art, and the event.
Held in early October in Sydney’s Camperdown Studios, Aje’s Chroma was unveiled through a series of immersive, inspiring and uplifting rooms that explored the concept of colour theory. Brand co-founders and best friends, Edwina Forest and Adrian Norris, collaborated with Australian artist Chanel Tobler and Australian illumination artist and interaction designer Laura Jade to create physical and digital touchpoints which weaved the season’s narrative for the show.
Aje presented an experiential journey through colour theory, designed to stimulate guests’ senses through unexpected shifts in energy and mood; through light, projection, art, sound, and interactivity.
Drawing from the natural world as a catalyst for its inspiration, Aje introduced the delicately interwoven connection of ecosystems through Laura Jade’s Brainlight installation.
An illuminated interactive sculpture shaped like a brain was worn by an Aje model, which cleverly integrated biology, lighting, and brain-computer interface technology, exploring the hidden aspects of our minds and poetically revealing how colour and mood are inextricably linked.
