If you’re thinking about grad school in these uncertain times—and uncertain times are a great opportunity to invest in your future!—SVA’s MFA in Products of Design is holding 3 virtual open house events this fall, each featuring projects, alumni, students, and a faculty panel concentrating on a particular convergence in the department’s curriculum.
“As hardcore ID fans know, the term ‘product designer’ now refers equally to interaction designers as well as industrial designers,” offers department chair Allan Chochinov. “So while design specialties are getting blurrier, they are also simultaneously merging. There is an urgent necessity for designers to be able to work both physically and digitally—and to be able to speak the two languages knowledgeably, with authority, and with compassion. That’s what we’ll be featuring during this first Open House event.”
The department’s strength has always been “training multi-lingual designers"—its curriculum spans everything from ID and UX/UI to social innovation design, public policy design, business design, disability studies, business management and more—so splitting up the Open House events into 3 evenings will give each area a bit more focus.
