I started this project six years ago with the mission to inspire the Overview Effect through the awe, beauty, and complexity that you get when looking at the Earth from outer space. Immersing ourselves daily in the various ways that humans have impacted the planet, it became clear to us that we are enacting potentially catastrophic change upon our one and only home.
While we’ve released dangerous levels of carbon into the atmosphere to power all this activity, we’ve also engineered promising solutions including the ability to harness renewable forms of energy. They give me hope that there’s still time to get the climate we have changed back into greater balance.
Above all, I am hopeful that the visual history that my co-author Timothy Dougherty and I assembled in “Overview Timelapse” can be used as a tool to understand how we can change the Earth going forward, for the better. We sincerely appreciate your support.
