Huge clouds of smoke — stretching more than 1,200 miles (1,931 km) across — rise from the wildfires currently burning in California. It is estimated that over the past weekend, the San Francisco Bay Area alone was struck by lightning 11,000 times. One of the more intense active fire groups — the LNU Lightning Complex in Napa and Sonoma counties — has more than doubled in size since yesterday, and now covers at least 130,000 acres.
