Gisbert Pöppler’s heritage apartment renovation in Berlin fuses the contemporary with tradition, creating a luxurious and inviting home. Spaces unfold with a sense of understated sophistication achieved through layered bespoke furnishings and meticulously detailed architectural interventions. The client’s passion for fine art and design anchors the project, bringing moments of modernity to the heritage building.

Colour is used with enthusiasm throughout the apartment, its bright energy bringing joy to all spaces. The owners’ deep love for large and colourful carpet sparked the development of the design language. A bespoke red-orange hue licks the walls of the living room, injecting a sense of infectious vibrancy. Soft grey and blue-toned furnishings paired with textured materials, counterbalance the bold use of colour – together creating an inviting environment that is both relaxing and visually stimulating.

A carefully curated collection of art pieces, chosen from the clients’ own extensive collection, hang on the walls. The artwork placement throughout the apartment is the work of a professional curator, each piece bringing a subdued sense of opulence to the scheme.

Well-thought-out details, although subtle in their language, are effective in bringing a refined elegance to the project. New parquet flooring speaks to the heritage feel of the original building, existing almost as If it had always been there. As occupants move from communal spaces into private areas, classical wall skirting shifts to take on a modern and minimalist voice, sensitively balancing the new with the old.
