Another Foot-Operated Door Opening Mechanism: A Quick-to-Install Hack from Japan

Upon learning his customers didn’t want to touch the refrigerator doors in his convenience store in Fukuoka, owner Koji Ohara came up with a hack: A U-shaped piece of 3mm-thick aluminum attached to the door with double-sided tape. Installing them all “took about ten minutes,” Ohara told Asahi News.

As word of the innovation spread locally, “We received inquiries from outside the convenience store,” Ohara says. “Just yesterday, an auto parts manufacturer in Nagoya asked me about the materials and dimensions.”
