A Designey Litter Box for Cats, Created by Architects

Looks like designey litter boxes for cats are now a thing. First came the Cove Modern Litter Box, which sought to address UX issues and racked up $167,735 on Kickstarter; now comes the Poop Cube, “designed by a pair of architects and…inspired by minimalist design,” according to the press release, “along with added features that make this cat box look as good as it works.”

The design looks clean enough. However, I’m a little skeptical of how sturdy the red switch is, and more significantly, something about the construction seems off to me; I can’t quite put my finger on it, but the narrow-seeming wall thickness, dearth of structural ribs and what appear to be flat molded side panels (as opposed to having a slight curvature to them) make me think the panels will buckle over time, and that the top enclosure will not neatly register with the base. However, I must state I’ve never seen the product in person, my injection molding days were long ago and I might be totally wrong.

In any case, the Poop Cube has already been successfully Kickstarted, with $6,931 in pledges on a $5,000 goal at press time. There’s still 28 days left to pledge, and the $99 item is being offered for the early-bird price of just $49.
