Right now we’re all dealing with a lot of challenges, and at Core77 we’re trying to remedy just one of them.
This year many year-end portfolio shows were abruptly canceled due to the Corona virus outbreak, leaving students and faculty without a means to share their accomplishments with a wide audience. These important events provide a platform for students to get valuable exposure and feedback on their work, make industry connections and celebrate the conclusion of an intense period of productivity and creativity.
To help counter this situation Core77 is producing a year-end showcase of art and design student work to allow everyone who otherwise would have visited a show in person to view and appreciate the results of a year (or more) of hard work and dedication by students.
Here is how it will work:
Faculty who are responsible for individual shows and interested in participating can register their show by completing a short form. They will be given a dedicated URL where their students can go to upload images and descriptions of their work and have it collected under the specific show name. Once the show is published and public the faculty contact and students will be given their dedicated URL to share with their friends, family, alumni and community. Register your school show using this link.
In addition, Core77 is calling for design industry professionals to participate by volunteering to review the work and provide feedback and commentary to the students involved. Design professionals are invited to add their name to a list of volunteers willing to participate, indicating their areas of expertise. Core77 staff will then match those people with relevant shows, and connect them to the show producers to schedule a video meeting / review with the students. Volunteer to review work using this link.
Core77 will promote the initiative extensively on Core77.com, through direct outreach and via social channels. The initial signup forms will be available beginning Monday April 13, on the program landing page at www.core77.com/student-showcase
We hope that this effort helps ease some of the stress people are feeling, and provides a way for everyone working in the design industry to come together and look toward a brighter future.
