Amid the sea of global design events cancelled or postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the 3rd annual edition of COLLECTIBLE, the pioneering fair dedicated exclusively to the 21st-century contemporary collectible design, returned to the Vanderborght building in Brussels for its third edition earlier this month.

Experimental in its approach, COLLECTIBLE design fair is one of a kind platform for the showcase and discovery of the best in collectible design today.

Seeking to continuously push the boundaries of creativity, the fair brings together established and emerging galleries, designers and design studios in a dynamic integrated space and collaborates with leading curators, design institutions and foundations to deliver ground-breaking commissions and curated projects.

“When we launched COLLECTIBLE more than four years ago, we would never have dreamt it could generate so much enthusiasm around contemporary collectible design,” said Clélie Debehault and Liv Vaisberg. Debehault is an art and design consultant based in Paris and Brussels, while Vaisberg is an Antwerp-based international artistic director. “The current interest around unique pieces and limited editions seems to increase every year and we are proud to be part of creating this new narrative for collectible design,” the duo said.

COLLECTIBLE 2020 presented an expanded roster of over 100 international exhibitors and an exciting new panorama of unique and limited edition works by practitioners from a mixed range of disciplines, sitting at the crossroads of design, architecture and art.

This year the fair launched a new section entitled Bespoke, highlighting the practices of design studios that, for the most part, conceive pieces for clients only on commission.

The Curated Section was a space for radical experimentation and discovery where participants are required to dig in a little and explore. With a selection curated by Brent Dzekciorius and within a scenography conceived by Paris-based Döppel Studio, visitors could discover singular pieces or small collections by designers with no gallery representation.

The visitors were welcomed to the building with scenography created by Rotterdam-based architectural practice Atelier Tomas Dirrix who created a curvy landscape of white blocks, while Lendl Barcelos conceived a sound design piece that echoed in the staircase.
