Pattern Studio have designed the Sydney flagship for emerging women’s fashion label Ozlana, further introducing the brand to the Asia-Pacific market with their first bricks-and-mortar boutique. Appealing to Ozlana’s ‘luxury youth’ demographic, the store embodies both a timeless and a directional aesthetic with feminine elements their customers are known to be drawn to. The fashion brand prides itself on using pure, raw materials from Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Australia. In keeping with this ethos, Pattern Studio embraced natural materials with a focus on minerals to sculpt the interior.

Located on level four of Westfield Sydney CBD, the boutique is fronted by a grand 2.4m wide brass-framed pivot door with a custom, primordial Onyx stone handle. The interior walls and floors are lined with honed London White marble, enveloping the space in soft calm compared to the busy retail mall across the threshold. With Ozlana’s staple product being the parka, pale blue accents enhance a wintery aesthetic against the snow-white marble.

Pattern Studio employ contrasting scales and volumes to compel customers throughout the store. Elemental features include a pink Onyx point of sale counter, its dramatic veins contrasting the clean, minimal detailing of the weighty monolith. Custom display plinths and cabinets combine repetitive Doric marble columns of varying diameters and heights, in a Stanley Kubrick-inspired retro-futuristic manner. These are interspersed with curved Glacier Granite stone details and glass accents.

Ice-like cubes of pastel pink Onyx brace polished brass display rails, while rectangular slabs laid on the floor acts as the display for merchandise. “Their combined heft intentionally responds to the transient nature of e-shopping, solidifying the tactile pleasure of the retail experience within the boutique,” explain the designers.

Such solid, structural pieces are balanced with delicate décor, including fitting rooms panelled in frost blue fabric by Raf Simons for Kvadrat, and an elegant wall sconce from Apparatus Studio. Generous spatial distance between display cabinets, shelves and rails open sightlines for customers to peruse clothing. A rear structural column was transformed into an impressive sculpture clad in fluted stone, with a cushioned circular bench encouraging customers to make themselves comfortable.
