Today’s contemporary workplaces combine leading-edge technology with physical elements to promote collaborative environments where a broad range of work modes are supported. Asia Pacific company Zenith pride themselves on products that serve both the cultural and practical needs of their clients, inspiring people and organisations to excel. With community and versatility in mind, Zenith has created Jac, ‘the people’s chair’, after five years of development in collaboration with Schamburg + Alvisse.

Jac combines elegance and comfort with strength and endurance, injected with innovative thinking by designers Marc Schamburg and Michael Alvisse. Versatile and warm, the collection has a natural application across multiple interior typologies from workplace and education to hospitality. Designed to be easily adaptable with a range of cohesive configurations, Jac can seamlessly shift from being either the centre of attention or a harmonious contribution to a broader aesthetic.

Comprising side chairs, tub chairs and stools, the collection is geared toward delivering luxury at an affordable price point. Versatile bases provide a choice of metal or timber legs and sleds, while powder-coat options offer a wide variety of colours that can tonally match specific environments. Jac is intended for spaces where people focus, share, collaborate and learn, with sitting and standing options further expanding the offering to suit meeting rooms or communal areas for socialising. Above all, the collection is engineered to be both durable and comfortable.

“Beyond fad or fashion, good design merges simplicity with unconditional support and endurance,” says Marc Schamburg of Schamburg + Alvisse. “In our throwaway times, JAC offers two lasting luxuries: craftsmanship and comfort,” continues Michael Alvisse.

Continuing the sustainable design ethos of Schamburg + Alvisse, Zenith are introducing an initiative that will help ensure the longevity of our forests. For every chair purchased a tree will be planted in a reforestation project across Asia Pacific. The current project Zenith are contributing to is located in Tasmania’s midlands which have experienced depleted habitats and reduced biodiversity due to centuries of farming. Wildlife has been greatly affected within this area, with some endangered species such as the Tasmania Devil put further at risk. Rebuilding these wildlife corridors will help protect Tasmania’s biodiversity, stimulate tourism, create jobs, revitalise local farming and will help strengthen the environment against the impact of climate change, now and into the future.

In addition to this initiative, the sustainability footprint of the Jac collection was a focus throughout the development. As Zenith owns their production and manufacturing process, all elements of Jac are designed, developed and assembled to meet local health and safety standards, and global quality benchmarks.

Regarded as pioneers of sustainable furniture design and manufacturing, Schamburg + Alvisse are recent recipients of the Gold Award by Good Design Australia 2018. Part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, their work has been exhibited in Milan’s Triennale Museum, San Jose Museum of Art and Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum.

The Jac collection is now ready to be specified by architects, interior designers and curators of modern workplaces. For more information, visit zenithinteriors.com or speak to one of the salespeople at your nearest Zenith showroom.
