Founder of home brand MENU Bjarne Hansen, Copenhagen-based Norm architects, and Kinfolk founder Nathan Williams, have executed a unique concept with The Audo – not your typical co-working space, rather a hybrid destination shaped by creative collaboration.

Focused on community building at the intersection of home, work and hospitality, the Audo considers itself a stage for users and makers to unite under the roof of a ‘living gallery’ concept store. The name itself is an abbreviation of the Latin phrase Ab Uno Disce Omnes, meaning ‘From one, learn all’.

The 2500 sqm space is housed in a 1918 building in the harbourside district and former industrial port of Nordhavnen, originally built as the merchant house of a Russian shipping magnate. The Neo-Baroque structure maintains striking original features amongst contemporary additions, with Norm Architects choosing to preserve the facades in homage to the building’s historical character.

Within the official Audo concept store, everything is for sale, from the linens and robes in the ‘residence’ (more on that further down) to the cushions, crockery, furniture and even stationary. The Audo is an opportunity for brands and the broader international arts and design community to display their wares, with décor intentionally reminiscent of a collector’s home.

Design partners are niche and artisan, the current rolodex including handcrafted box brand August Sandgren, high-end leather brand Sørensen, luxury timber flooring by Dinesen, and homewares and furniture brand MENU, defined by their crisp Scandinavian aesthetic. Double height ceilings, full height curtains, gridded windows and smooth rendered walls form a striking backdrop for the various pieces.

The Audo Residence is a boutique hotel that also functions as a showroom, constantly transforming and adapting according to various partners. Rooms are calm and curated with warm oak floors, exposed timber beams, slanted roofs and recessed windows.

Available for guests, architects and designers seeking inspiration, and event hire, the Audo library includes a comprehensive and ever-expanding collection of natural materials, fabrics, and leathers from brand partners, including wood and stone samples for flooring and furniture, architectural details, visual references and catalogues. A serious one stop shop!
