TORTUGA and Home Studios Team Up on The Curved Wave Shelf
Last time we covered TORTUGA, the now one year old design brand was launching their first product, colorful bookends designed by Ciszak Dalmas. To celebrate their one year anniversary the design brand, who is becoming known for their strategic partnerships with designers, has launched the Wave Shelf, a curved shelf designed by Oliver Haslegrave, founder of Home Studios. Home Studios is best known for the unexpected material combinations and custom furnishings found in their high-end custom hospitality interiors. Through this collaboration with TORTUGA, Haslegrave is giving fans a rare opportunity to bring a piece of his work into their own homes.
Besides the curved section—which lends itself nicely to some creative storage solutions—the Wave Shelf requires no tools to assemble, putting an emphasis on the craft of joinery. The shelf is delivered flat-packed and is designed to be so easy to put together that it “feels like playing with tinker toys”. The pieces simply twist into place, and the final form hangs directly onto standard wall screws.
The Wave Shelf originally debuted during NYCxDesign 2016 as part of HOMEWORK, Home Studios’ custom furniture brand. For this collaboration TORTUGA and Haslegrave revisited the original Wave Shelf design, which was molded from stainless steel, had larger proportions and was made to order only. In order to make the product more accessible for the home, the two brands landed on flat-packed wood as a viable solution, meeting TORTUGA’s mission to “make furniture that easily moves from one home to the next”.
