United Products has revealed a new collection of Australian-designed bathroom delights – specifically wet area ‘artefacts’ for contemporary and classic spaces. And if you, like me, love bathrooms but are able to count the number of times new bathroom accessories really, truly excited you on one hand (custom fittings aside), prepare to be moved.

United Products’ premise is to colour the void of (dare I say it?) boring bathroom objects by working with leading creatives to design and create standard fixtures that really stand out, as well as developing custom solutions for medium to large projects. The inaugural series of products features the work of a combination of Australian designers: Thomas Coward, Stephen Royce, and Hana Hakim of Melbourne-based practice The Stella Collective.

“We felt that Australia lacked a bathroom brand that appealed to the high quality of Interior projects we were all working on,” said Thomas, who’s also the Creative Director of the brand. “The bathroom space is one of the most versatile and exciting rooms in a building and the choice of products available were mostly European brands that were often created for a generic market, or too price restrictive.”

Among the most covetable basins is Thomas Coward’s Lunar Basin – a solid surface pedestal with a stunning half-moon bowl. There’s also the wall-hung halo basin with a polished brass ring, and the Contour basin framed in matte black steel.

“We’ve found that architects and designers often can’t find what they need, and creating custom solutions was problematic for them,” said Stephen Royce, who has created custom baths for Rogerseller, and vanities for Reece and Formed. From Stephen, there is the bevel bath – a wide square shape tub that looks a little like softened butter. Ceramic draw dividers are an elegant upgrade from humble plastic.

“I had wanted to design a beautiful bathware piece for some time,” said Hana Hakim, discussing her Siren Basin. “The inspiration for the name came from Greek mythology. Sirens were beautiful creatures that lured sailors to the shore. I thought that was such fitting theme for my statuesque basin.”
