Studiopepe have designed a sophisticated boutique for the women’s fashion label Alysi in Milan‘s historic Brera district, set within the walls of a 17th-century building.

It’s not often the ceiling detail that grabs you first in a fitout. But this linear configuration of delicate black metal bars becomes almost an art installation. A play on words, or more precisely, objects, the ceiling is the reference to clothing racks one might traditionally associate with a fashion brand. It’s not just the ceiling of course which is stunning about this space. Studiopepe have created a modern, feminine aesthetic with a common thread connecting the clothing and the setting.

The 130-square-metre store, a palette of half-tones and natural tints, enhances the reading of the collection without overwhelming it. The boutique is conceived as a sequence of spaces, each with an individual character and distinguished by combinations of materials and colours that accompany the client along a chromatic and perspective path.

The study of shapes and materials takes concrete form in rich, custom-made surfaces like the floor – which reinterprets the Palladian classic with irregular, maxi-inserts in polychrome marble – along with glossy surfaces and sculptural elements in marble and plaster.

Divided over three rooms, the boutique develops as you move further in: an elegant display of suits fills the entrance, where the fresh, bright atmosphere invites you to explore the collection. Here again, we witness the subtle art of shapes, the fine, thin white clothing rails, every bit as much of the sculptural aesthetic as the geometric detailing within the flooring.

A transition space gains force in its chromatic configuration and installations, connecting the first room to the second through an apricot coloured, curved tunnel. Here, an innovative wall display in copper and gypsum takes centre stage, complementing Alysi’s looks and showcasing their line of accessories. Finally, the dressing room area was designed like a small lounge with a soft, poised atmosphere. Long elongated oval mirrors repeat the geometry found in the accessory display. The dressing room with its luxuriously long curtains, soft carpeting and pale grey walls creates what can only be described as the perfect intimate environment in which to buy the most beautiful Italian items.
