Guillaume Garnier and Florent Linker met at École Camondo in Paris. Both went on to spend time in the studios of France’s coolest – Guillaume with Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty at Studio KO, and Florent with master of magical decoration, Tehran-born, Paris-based India Mahdavi. Now though, the duo has buddied up to create a series of objet d’art under the title Garnier & Linker. Handmade and rendered in alabaster, midnight black obsidian, Volvic volcanic stone, bronze, plaster and beautiful amber coloured cast glass – the collection is otherworldly.
To create their collection, Guillaume and Florent first established an incredible network of craftsmen throughout France. Across two years, they visited around 150 studios across the country, learning and developing the realms of possibility for the materials they wanted to push and play with as decorative art. Their study of volcanic rock may be most beguiling: 2 million year-old murky semi-precious obsidian formed by the rapid cooling of lava, and porous grey Volvic rock torn from mountain flanks in Auvergne.

In the limited edition collection are pendants, sconces, chandeliers and ceiling lights; and a table and leaning mirror. Each piece has been designed to heighten and enrich materiality. The Aura lamp – a round disc created in sand cast bronze – is lit from within to amplify the colour, tone, and veins in its alabaster or volcanic stone shade. The spellbinding, sculptural Iris lamp is made of an orb of transparent or silver-grey wax, with painted brass back plate.
The Garnier & Linker collection will be exhibited at Gallery Joyce in Paris from March 13 – April 7, and then again at Salone del Mobile at Galerie Cornici Design Milano from April 15 – 21.
