Iōjima is an island located 59 miles (110 km) south of Kagoshima, Japan. Iōjima experiences frequent volcanic activity, which results in massive amounts of sulfur dioxide flowing into the sea. This causes the surrounding waters to turn yellow, green, and teal as seen here. The island has a total area of 4.5 miles (11.65 sq. km) and a population of 142 persons.
