Yesterday NASA’s Cassini spacecraft ended it’s 19 year mission by crashing into Saturn. Before it plunged into the surface, onboard cameras captured hundreds of stunning photos including this one of the planet backlit by the sun. This lighting exposes the gauzy texture of Saturn’s rings, and reveals the very faint, icy outermost F-ring.
