Sun City, Arizona, USA opened as a retirement community on January 1, 1960. That day, more than 100,000 people showed up to see the new development, resulting in a cover story in Time magazine. The community was built on the old ghost town of Marinette and covers 14.6 square miles. Today, Sun City has a population of roughly 37,000 people.
