Have you ever wondered how long it would take the Earth to reclaim herself after humans are long gone? How much time would need to pass before the green tendrils of nature wrap themselves around a building slowly suffocating the bricks and mortar, leaving no traces of humanity behind?
Architecture and landscape photographer Francesco Luciani has. His lens has captured the life-force of Nature and its death as mining activities erode the very essence of its beauty. But he has stayed long enough to watch Nature reclaim the exploited land from that which was left forsaken.
“Left behind are the evidences of the exploitation of resources but also a possible healing found in their abandonment, as the nature begins to re-mould the spaces into new creations of haunting beauty combining the industrial and the natural,” comments Luciani.
Through his powerful photography we have the unique ability to see this battle of wills in action, human progress versus Mother Earth. And what a sight it is to behold. His generous lens takes panoramic photographs of the scars made on the land during mining expeditions. Whilst initially the clean cuts from the mining seems horrendous, Luciani gives us infinite hope in the face of such devastation. As nature reclaims its land we are left with avery different kind of beauty. A transformative beauty. A beauty that is awe inspiring, humbled at the powers of nature. It leaves us with a heart felt gratitude for Mother Earth’s ultimate triumphant.
