Dubrovnik, Croatia is situated on the Adriatic Sea and is home to roughly 42,000 people. The picturesque city was one of the last standing fortifications in Croatia’s war for independence, including the well-known “Siege of Dubrovnik” in which it held out against the Yugoslav People’s Army in 1991. Croatia won its independence in 1995 and eventually joined the European Union in 2013.
