Photos of the Week: 12/3–12/16 (35 photos)

Santacon in London, a toppled wind turbine in Germany, protests against proposed austerity measures in Rio de Janeiro, the evacuation of Aleppo, snow sculpture in China, an earthquake in Aceh Province, Indonesia, and much more. This collection includes photos from the past week, as well as from the previous week—which we missed while doing the year-end wrap-ups.

A grey seal pup rolls on the sand near the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust’s Donna Nook nature reserve on December 5, 2016, in Louth, England. Seal numbers have continued to increase with over 1,600 pups born at the reserve this year. Large bull seals are the first to arrive at the reserve in late October or early November where they will wait for females. The cow’s arrive later and are herded into harems by the bulls, where they give birth to a single pup which is covered in white fur. (Dan Kitwood / Getty)
