Alessi Wants to Help You Save Toothpaste

imageAlessi

Too funny: Alessi makes this Buckle Tube Squeezer, made from chrome-plated Zamak. (Zamak is a zinc alloy containing aluminum, magnesium and copper, which sounds fancy—but don’t get too excited, it’s essentially pot metal.)

“Even those things we see every day may be put to quite unexpected use,” the company writes. “A buckle that pulls and presses on a belt may in this way become a minimalist tube squeezer. Whether it is a tube of toothpaste, a cosmetic product or creamy food, this object makes sure it can be completely used up.”

The Buckle’s going for 20 bucks on Amazon. I checked a webbing supply company called Strapworks, because I know they sell metal slides like you see below, and wanted to know what they were charging:

Looks like Alessi’s got the last laugh. Strapworks’ largest width offered—which only costs 80 cents, by the way—maxes out at two inches. Alessi’s is three inches. I just measured my tube of Colgate in the bathroom and, wouldn’t you know it:

Guess I’ll just have to stick with my finger-squeezing method. Life is tough, kids.
