Polygons: Fold-Flat 4-in-1 Measuring Sppons

As a product design student at India’s National Institute of Design, Coroflotter Rahul Agarwal received this advice from a senior: “Do not tackle designs that have reached the final stage of their evolution. For example, a spoon.”

Agarwal defiantly ignored the advice and proceeded to design Polygons, the most clever measuring spoon set we’ve ever seen:

Takes up less space, folds flat, easy to clean. I’m sure there’s a slight ergonomic trade-off, but ultimately I find these brilliant, a perfect marriage of geometry and a deft understanding of materials.

Molded from polypropylene with TPR (thermoplastic rubber) serving as the living hinges, the object is projected to last for 100,000 flexing cycles before deteriorating. “This means, even if you were to use it 25 times a day, every day, the hinges would outlast 10 years!” says the project’s Kickstarter page. Not bad considering they’re just $12 for a set of both sizes, and they are of course recyclable at the end of that ten years.

Agarwal was seeking $10,000 in pledges. At press time he had over $107,000, and there’s still 39 days left in the campaign.
