Sweet Tooth.

Summer Cleaning.

Candy Crush.

Valentines Sponge Cake.

We’ve all been taught from an early age not to play with our food. Vanessa McKeown must have had some serious issues with this order, as she’s become the master of interpretation, turning everyday objects into playful and colourful food imagery with witty undertones. London-based photographer and art director constructs fruits, vegetables cakes, and sweets with balloons, soccer balls, and other household objects.

A graduate in graphic design and film editing, McKeown uses her training to set up edible still-life images such as a sponge cake made with real cleaning sponges. Mmmm… So, so wrong. Hahaha! McKeown’s ‘Fruloons & Vegaloons’ collection features a bundle of cherry tomatoes, eggplants, pineapples and other fruit and veggies presented as balloon-based species. Additionally, her series ‘Good gone bad‘ captures vegetables and fruit as fast food and features them entirely out of context.

On the inspiration behind her work, McKeown shares: “I like to mix things up and make them visually pleasing!” It’s fair to say McKeown’s clever and unusual interpretations are a lighthearted way to showcase the brilliance of simplicity.
