Stockholm-based Studio E.O was founded 2013 by Erik Olovsson, an independent designer and graduate of Konstfacks MA Storytelling program. Olovsson originally studied Fine Art and Photography at Konstskolan in Stockholm, and later Graphic Design at Berghs SOC. He worked as an art director at the creative collective Acne for 3 years, before establishing his own practice (I mean, no wonder he is so good, right?).
Studio E.O works within the fields of product, furniture and graphic design, focus on methods and creating systems during the design process. The studio aims at having an intuitive and experimental starting point for their projects, working on a mix of self initiated projects and commissions. At all times, Olovsson strives to stay out of his comfort zone and encourages work in various fields and techniques.
Below is a selection of our favourite projects. So good.
INDEFINITE VASES is an exploration of the relationship between geometric and organic forms – transparent and opaque. Indefinite melting material interacts with definite angular forms and gravity determines the relationship in between. Indefinite Vases are sculptures or containers. Functional or decorative. The contrast between the cut stone and the form of the hand blown glass emphasises the relationship between space and object, an interplay between a fragile material and its solid counterpart.
Made from Portoro Marble, Amarillo Macael Marble, Pink Onyx, Azul Bahia Granite, Rosa Norvegia Marble & Hand blown glass.
ST∞L is a sequence, a collection of experiments on colour and connections. Olovsson’s focus was his intuition, allowing the hand and the eye to direct his process through a daily exercises to explore and develop techniques through practice and repetition. Using a limited palette of pine and screen print dye, materials left over from previous work, the small tests developed into the foundations for ST∞L.
COMBINE are laser cut coasters made in 5mm thick steel, powder-coated in black with small rubber pads on the bottom for heat protection. The design can be described as a composition play between the three most essential geometric forms – the circle, triangle and square, merged into new distinct forms.
CUT is a circular storage box, made for the storage of small items like keys, pencils, lipstick etc. The opening of the circular box is elegantly cut into an ellipse covered by a mirror with the same shape.
These solid bookends are available in three types of metal – Solid brass, copper, stainless steel. With a neat yet steady design the bookend can hold up many books at once. The geometrical sharp shapes and the polished surface creates a distinct look.
HOLED is a collection of boxes and storage objects made in birch with see-through cutouts. The large holes creates a distinct graphic look and let’s the light through in an elegant way. The holes makes the boxes light and easy to move around and to hold. They work both as stand alone units for storage or stacked on top in endless combinations, both as a shelving system, side table or any other playful set up.
