Arita House, a project from the Arita 2016/ initiative showcasing the craftsmanship of this Japanese pottery town, aims to connect contemporary Japanese and Dutch culture through exhibits, gardens workshops and tea ceremonies. The house exhibits the design and production process behind porcelain items and demonstrates how the designers involved were inspired by Japanese craftsmanship and culture.

In an age of ever-increasing distractions, how do companies create products people use every day? Creating customer habits is an important characteristic of successful products. Nir Eyal has constructed a framework for designing habit-forming products and will discuss his research in this full-day workshop.

Wednesday

Numen/For Use is a collective that focuses on configuring objects and concepts without a predefined function. Making Flying Spaces participants will develop a spatial structure using accessible and low-tech materials. The goal is to reinterpret or invent hands-on technology for installation production that results in a parasitic attachment to an existing structure.

Thursday

If you missed the first week of NEW INC’s End of Year Showcase, it’s not too late to miss the second week of this art, design, and technology filled exhibition. This interactive event is an opportunity for NEW INC members to present their work to the broader public through stress-testing works in progress, gaining input from audiences, and engaging with new viewers.

Friday

Linear Tensions is an exhibition of new work and site-specific installations from Jillian Clark and Gabrielle Duggan. The exhibit is comprised of two large-scale installations and several two-dimensional wall works by the artists, which confront issues of memory, displacement, appropriation, labor and identity.

Saturday/Sunday

How can we recreate a waterfront city so its design is intelligent, flexible, and responsive to the needs of residents and visitors? Shore to Core is a design and research competition that uses West Palm Beach as a model to reimagine waterfront cities. The winning teams will work with West Palm Beach to further develop their projects.
