The new Iron Man is a black woman. Meet Riri Williams.
There’s a new Iron Man in town.
Marvel announced that a new character, Riri Williams, will be taking Tony Stark’s place in an upcoming comic, Time reports. She’s a genius who enrolled at MIT at 15, and Stark finds out about her after she builds her own Iron Man suit in her dorm.
Writer Brian Michael Bendis, who was also involved int he creation of characters like Miles Morales and Jessica Jones, tells Time he came up with the character after hearing a news story about a “brilliant young woman” from Chicago. Her life was “marred by tragedy that could have easily ended her life,” but she ended up going off to college. Read more…
