Applying paint to layers and layers of fine netting, Uttaporn Nimmalaikaew is a 33-year old Thai artist who creates ghostly portraits that shift and distort when viewed from different positions.

Nimmalaikaew developed this unique technique by accident, after finding a stray speck of paint on a mosquito net in his studio. He was fascinated by the three dimensional quality of the surface, and began to explore new ways to use this material. His subjects are usually family members – he views his work as a way of preserving their spirit in time.

It takes serious technical skill to create such a convincing optical illusion, we’d absolutely love to experience Nimmalaikaew’s artworks in person.
