For three days this week, the 7th annual Clerkenwell Design Week will take over various locations throughout London. Highlights include the Museum of Making pavilion by White Arkitekter (pictured above), an exhibition of new Tom Dixon designs inside St. James Church and One Thing After Another, an exhibit by Sam Jacob Studio exploring translations between the digital and physical worlds.

In Methexis, an exhibition sponsored by DEPE (Department of Education and Public Engagement) Space Residency Project in Detroit, interdisciplinary designer Mitch McEwen presents a series of studies and proposals that reimagine the processes of demolition and preservation in the city, focused on finding new design tactics for the tens of thousands of vacant homes in the city.

“It’s the ongoing relentlessness of the thing. That’s the nagging notion through the years that keeps bringing me back to the subject of war,” explains iconic illustrator Seymour Chwast. A selection of his antiwar imagery is currently on view at the Society of Illustrators, a thought-provoking showcase of one man’s visual wrestling with themes of conflict, chaos and violence.

Opening this weekend in Venice is the 15th iteration of the Venice Architecture Biennale, curated by Chilean architect and 2015 Pritzker winner Aljandro Aravena. This year’s theme is “Reporting from the Front,” and will investigate architecture’s potential to improve the built environment and people’s quality of life.
