What you see is exactly what you get with artist Diego Berjon, who describes his work as ‘deliberately succinct and absolutely literal’. We love this upfront approach, and the bold graphic nature of his artworks. Born in Mexico,  but currently living and working in Barcelona, Berjon’s abstract paintings are mostly black and white and feature thick naïve lines that explore form, geometry and composition.

Berjon recently collaborated with Australian artist Kate Banazi after stumbling across her work on Instagram. Both share a mutual respect and a common appreciation for abstraction and composition, but work in completely different ways – from technique, to process, to palette. Out of curiosity for how their styles could work together, a collaboration was born.

Explaining their unique collaborative process, Diego shares: “We sent each other a bunch of ‘unfinished’ pieces by mail and create the collages without ever knowing what’s going to come out of the package. For us, collaborating has a lot to do with the unexpected and also with challenging the other person. In our case the challenge is about composition. You could say each artwork is like a little test and, when you get a new piece, you need to come up with a ‘visual solution’ and finish the piece.”
