Today we’re off to Catalonia in Spain to take a look around a drop-dead incredible country home restored by one of our favourite Spanish firms, Francesc Rifé Studio. The designers were briefed to transform the c.1910 farmhouse into a home-come-gallery space, allowing their clients to showcase their exquisite collection of 50s and 60s furniture by Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand, and contemporary art by the likes of David Shrigley.

Francesc Rifé  Studio removed several walls and extended windows to open up the space, let the light in and create a better connection between indoors and outdoors. The gallery-like experience is enhanced by the use of a monochromatic white colour scheme throughout the interior – a simple move that equally emphasises the home’s unique rustic bones and the impressive furniture and art that populates it.

Speaking of the original structure, how incredible are all the original details and materials? Interior windows, super-thick walls, archways, organic stone masonry and stepped levels – we absolutely love it all. Hats off to Francesc Rifé  for so artfully enhancing these elements in their restoration process.

Spatially, the ground floor of the main structure features a living room and gallery space, kitchen and several rest areas, and upstairs there are two guest bedrooms. A secondary structure can be reached via a communal external courtyard that is framed by an incredible wavy canopy, and includes a main bedroom, bathroom, working studio and terrace.

Combining the exquisite rural architecture of the Catalonia region with the vision of a leading design studio and the trust of a client with a very tasteful collection of furniture and design, House In Emporda ticks every box for us. Major love.
