Inspired by David Hockney’s stylised pool paintings and Palm Springs modernism, Louis Pretty Deli in Berlin is designed by three collaborators – Oskar Melzer, Phillip Mainzer and Paul Bauer. In homage to the original kosher delis, the Kreuzberg restaurant is named after Louis ‘Pretty’ Amberg, a 1930s Jewish gangster from New York.

Bridging East Coast kosher mafia culture with stylistic 50’s West Coast motifs, the fresh interior features a bold palette of vermillion-coloured walls, ‘bazooka’ candy pink upholstered seating and turquoise Italian laminate ‘swimming pool’ table-tops. Crisp concrete floors and stainless steel benches harmonise the strong and saturated elements, and the modernist teak-stained Houdini chairs by E15 add a contemporary stylistic edge. 100% proof that po-mo is back with a vengeance; Louis Pretty is certainly not your average Jewish deli, baby.
