Haute chocolate: Pierre Marcolini and Peter Pilotto’s sweet collaboration

From chocolatier Pierre Marcolini and fashion house Peter Pilotto comes a collaboration hoping to reinvent the visual rules of haute chocolaterie.

For Marcolini, chocolate has always been much more than a sweet treat; it is ‘an invitation on a journey that involves selecting the finest chocolate beans sourced from the four corners of the globe’.

In this new joint venture, Peter Pilotto – the fashion house compromised of designer-duo Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos – conceived a Rubik’s cube-style box for the upmarket confectioners. Having met at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Pilotto and De Vos later founded their company in London, developing a distinct graphic aesthetic that has become their signature style. The multi-coloured pattern adorning the Pierre Marcolini packaging is unique to the Peter Pilotto brand, aiming to take traditional techniques and reinterpreting them as modern textures.

Though the collection may come in packaging seemingly more at home in a children’s playground, it comprises a superior selection of chocolates. The bright exterior colours merely reflect the vibrancy of what lies inside: heart-shaped cœurs in flavours including lemon, passion fruit, pistachio praline, nougat praline, salted caramel and raspberry, plus classic pralines and Grand Cru chocolates.

The joint effort, although idiosyncratic, represents a crossing of creative paths in pursuit of palatable perfection.
