Heike is a new fashion concept store, unassumingly tucked away on the third floor of a residential apartment block in the suburban outskirts of Shanghai, China. Designed by An Design Studio, the all-grey interior has a dystopian feel, with black steel Brutalist volumes designed to sit within the bare concrete shell of the space, creating new and interesting zones for clothing display, fitting rooms, storage and register.

Dark timber, raw concrete, burnished steel and polished silver accents work in harmony to create a rough yet futuristic aesthetic. Suspended black boxes display the utilitarian-style clothing, and the filtered lighting thanks to the mesh-clad windows and backlit glass paneling add to the moody, austere aesthetic. The space also includes a small bar, increasing Heike’s ‘destination appeal’ as a place for both shopping and social gathering. A tough and masculine interior at its finest. We dig.
