United Airlines announced on Thursday that it will start service from San Francisco International Airport to Singapore’s Changi Airport, starting June 1. The flight will be the only nonstop service to the U.S. from Singapore and will save passengers about four hours in travel time.

The 8,446-mile flight will be 16 hours and 20 minutes long, the longest-scheduled flight operated by any U.S. airline.

A fuel-efficient Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, of which there are 26 in United’s fleet, will fly the route.

Once service to Singapore begins, the airline will stop its flights from Singapore to Tokyo. Read more…
