Sotheby’s will auction off five unique Bang & Olufsen BeoSound 1 speakers this week, which the two companies are calling a celebration of the art of design. Each speaker has been individually anodized and dyed at B&O’s world-leading aluminum factory in Denmark. This is what makes the pieces genuinely special: Bang & Olufsen fancies itself the best company the world when it comes to crafting aluminum (its high-profile clients like BMW would agree), and it achieves a level of design precision that’s rarely matched. You certainly couldn’t just buy a generic BeoSound 1 and spray-paint it to look like one of these special one-of-a-kind editions.

This year’s reboot of God of War on the PlayStation 4 was a wonderful surprise. It imbued the long-running series with an emotional core, turned Kratos into a likable character, and still managed to include some very satisfying action. It also looked gorgeous, as the series made the shift from Greek to Norse mythology with plenty of style. Now that style can live on your walls thanks to a new series of art prints from Cook & Becker.

During a news cycle where headline after headline covers the political, social, and emotional turmoil at the United States-Mexico border, departed Oculus co-founder Palmer Luckey is proposing a blanket solution involving virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and a few very tall towers. This “virtual border wall” was revealed last year, but Wired has now reported more details about Luckey’s venture Anduril Industries. The company is touting a surveillance system called Lattice that would survey the motion of potential border-crossers from up to two miles away.

Lattice, as detailed in Wired, is primarily based off of well-established security technologies — a combination of cameras, LIDAR, and infrared sensors — that capture data…

Chances are you will never be able to afford one of Swedish designer Love Hultén’s gorgeous, handmade wooden retro consoles or arcade cabinets. I’m in the same boat. But that doesn’t mean we all can’t appreciate the design work that goes into making them, like his latest piece, the OriginX wall-mounted arcade cabinet.

Inspired by the original Pong arcade cabinet, Hultén’s spin is built from a walnut housing with an aluminum control panel and facade (painted yellow to match the original Pong style, but customizable to whatever color you’d like should you actually buy one.)

On the inside, Hultén has a modern computer with a MAME emulator for running classic games (the cabinet offers full two-player support), with USB access…

The Google Pixel 2 XL has, for most intents and purposes, taken over as my professional camera, but a smartphone isn’t quite versatile or comfortable enough to pen notes or longer articles on. This is where Intel’s Tiger Rapids concept device, shown off for the first time at Computex 2018, comes in.
