Adobe and Moleskine have teamed up again to launch the Creative Cloud Connected Moleskine Paper Tablet, which turns hand-drawn sketches into vectors in Illustrator in real time. The Creative Cloud notebook is the latest addition to Moleskine’s Smart Writing System, which works with the standalone Pen+ Ellipse to track what’s being drawn on the pages. The idea is that it’ll eliminate the extra steps artists have to take between sketching out their ideas on paper and getting to the finished digital product.
To get started, you need to download the Moleskine+ for Adobe Illustrator extension, which adds an option in Illustrator’s Windows tab to connect the pen. You don’t necessarily need to have Illustrator open while you’re working (as fun…

The official pictograms for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were revealed this past week as Japan marked 500 days until the summer games. Designed by Masaaki Hiromura, the icons are based on the designs from the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, where pictograms first made their debut. They’ve since been used on venue maps, buildings, and programs to promote the sports and help fans and attendees better understand the games without language barriers.
There are 50 pictograms in all for 33 sports (some have more than others), and there are some new additions to welcome the most recently added sports like baseball, softball, karate, skateboarding, surfing, and speed climbing.
“I hope that these pictograms will inspire everyone and help generate excitement for…

Deekay Kwon is a motion graphics artist who’s worked with clients like Google, Buck, and Huge. You might have seen his animations at the Made By Google keynote that introduced the Pixel, or on his Instagram, where his recent “Designer & Client” series hit deep for artists everywhere who have had to deal with difficult clients.
The South Korean-born, New York-based artist started out studying 3D animation and visual effects at the School of Visual Arts, but had to drop out due to financial circumstances. Still, a year of real-world studio experience and online tutorials have helped him work as a freelance artist for the past seven years of his career. He’s now paying it forward to his followers, with detailed YouTube tutorials and…

Ikea furniture is ubiquitous because it’s affordable, but it’s not always accessible to everyone, especially people with disabilities. For example, some wardrobes are handleless, and it can be difficult to turn on a lamp with its tiny switches. To remedy this, Ikea Israel teamed up with nonprofits Milbat and Access Israel to develop ThisAbles, a line of 3D-printed add-ons for Ikea furniture.
There are 13 designs available. They slip over Ikea furniture and accessories to turn a small button into a giant one or to lift a couch a couple of inches from the ground to help make getting up a little easier. Installation methods for all of the 3D modifications are demonstrated on Ikea Israel’s YouTube page, showing how a small tweak can make a…

Pen15’s depiction of the early 2000s is frighteningly, uncomfortably accurate, and even that isn’t saying enough. The breakout Hulu comedy, produced by Lonely Island members Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, is crafted to a level that viewers describe as giving them “PTSD flashbacks” to middle school. Creators Anna Konkle and Maya Erskine play their 13-year-old selves among a cast of actual middle-schoolers, but they blend in seamlessly. They’re believably awkward, with braces, bowl cuts, and ponytails with two face-framing strands of hair pulled out.
Production designers Grace Alie and Ali Rubinfeld were responsible for making every scene of Pen15 feel like it was set in the Y2K era, and the prop gadgets prove it. “That…
