Retro games keep resurfacing in all types of emulators, but Swedish artist and craftsman Love Hultén has created one that goes the extra mile if you really want a full, nostalgia-fueled experience. His newest design, called Yesterday Vision, is a handmade midcentury-inspired monitor enclosure that can play games from classic systems.

The Yesterday Vision contains a 19-inch 4:3 monitor that’s designed to have the curvature distortion of an old CRT monitor. It also has full-range loudspeakers and a built-in Raspberry Pi computer that emulates gaming systems like the SNES, NES, Genesis, NeoGeo, MAME, Atari 2600, N64, and PSX. Savage has released a major update for the iPad illustration app Procreate today, adding long-awaited features like the ability to add text and create animations. The update will come with standard iOS fonts, plus three additional typefaces. Artists will also be able to add their own custom fonts. Looking through artist Katy Strutz’s puppets evokes a series of reactions — mostly wonder and amazement, with a little bit of bewilderment thrown in. As I scroll through the intricate, painstakingly crafted sculptures, all I can think is, “How?” It’s dizzying to think about the countless hours that went into crafting each puppet, and how details like the tiny stitches in the clothing all come together to create a character that can go on to take life in a stop-motion animation.

Acer just announced ConceptD, the company’s new brand of premium laptops that are specifically designed for creators. The company essentially took its gaming laptops and turned them into more focused devices for things like professional video editing and illustration. To kick things off, Acer is announcing a trio of ConceptD laptops: the ConceptD 9, the ConceptD7, and the ConceptD 5.

The ConceptD 9 is the flagship of the line, and Acer says it’s specifically designed for drawing and 3D work. It features a transforming 17.3-inch 4K display with an Ezel Aero Hinge (similar to the one featured on Acer’s Predator Triton 900 gaming PC) and built-in Wacom pen support.

LG has been granted US patent 10,254,863, as noted by Let’s Go Digital, which sets out one potential vision for foldable phones — and it involves a mostly transparent display. Filed in 2015, this patent is just a hint at how long tech companies have been mulling foldables, as well as how weird and outlandish their concepts have been. The idea with this one is that you’d have one half of the device with an adjustable transparency, with the other half having some transparent portion and an opaque section to accommodate its battery. As usual with patents, the why of such a gadget is not explained, only the how.
